The Rolfing Ten Series
The Rolfing Ten series is an organized "recipe" in which each session feeds off of the other for optimal balance and order within the body's structure. It offers a beginning and an end to receiving body work. The process of the series works as an educational experience for each client; An opportunity to receive body work over a period of 2 or so months, in a way that helps you feel into the relationships that exist within the body, and get a sense of how ones body moves and functions as a unit.
Below is a brief description of each session, their goals and territory worked.
Session One
Devoted to enhancing the quality of breath with work around the ribcage and touching on the diaphragm. Opening is also started along the upper leg, hamstrings, neck and spine.
Session Two
Session two is tailered to finding balance and support from the lower body, The feet, ankles and lower legs. A good foundation is necessary for any structure.
Session Three
Lengthening up the sides of the body. We work on understanding how the head, shoulder girdle and hips are related and function between one another.
Session Four
Considered the first of the "core sessions", support for the midline of the body begins here. The territory extends from the inside arch of the foot and up the leg to the bottom of the pelvis. We feel into the state and positioning of the pelvis by exploring the relationship of the legs to the pelvic floor.
Session Five
The abdominal / deep abdominal cavity session. We “awaken” the tissues of the deep psoas and feel into how out legs can be related to and move from the deep abdominal tissues
Session Six
“Free the sacrum”. We work on gaining more support and movement from the legs, pelvis and lower back. Differentiating the sacrum, which is the base of our spine, from the other to structures known as the hips.
Session Seven
All about the head and neck relationship. We explore how the head balances on the body and address any tension within the cranium. Creating space, ease and comfort within the head and neck.
Session Eight & Nine
The last three sessions are about "putting the pieced back together". It is all about integration. These two sessions can look different for everybody and are determined by the practitioner based off of what is needed for the individual.
Session Ten
The last session is a last oppertunity to balance the horizontals in the body. We will touch over the whole body and incorperate lots of movement. The main goal for this last session is to inspire a sense of order, balance and confidence throughout the body.
